Where can I park my rental car?

Given that the island of Crete is populous, during summer season cars in use are increasing dramatically, causing big traffic jams in the cities.
This means that the safest places to park your rental car at the big cities of the island (Heraklion-Chania-Rethymnon-Agios Nikolaos-Sitia) are the numerous pre-paid parking areas. 
However, things are more quiet in the villages and the southern parts of the island, where you can easily find a place to park, for free!

What is the price of fuel in Crete?

Petrol price is approximately 1.90€/lt and Diesel is 1.75€/lt.
 

What is the speed limit in Crete?

The speed limit in urban areas of Crete is 30kms and the maximum speed in the Highway is 90kms. 
Please be careful though, as there are numerous sections of road that being controlled by speed radar both in the cities, as well as on the Highway along the island.

Can I travel outside Crete with my rental car?

Transportation of the rental vehicle outside Crete boarders, to any other island or in the mainland, is not allowed!
Insurance and roadside assistance are valid and provided only, for Crete island.
This means that no insurance coverage applies, if the vehicle is driven elsewhere than the isalnd of Crete.

What do I need to pick up the car?

The following need to be presented at the rental desk:
1. Original/physical driving licence, held for a minimum of 2 years.
2. Passport or identity card.
3. Credit or Debit card with enough funds to cover the Excess amount.
4. Official confirmation document in copy or digital form.
5. Any other documentation specified on your booking.
**All required documentation needs to be in the main driver's name, so please, make sure to check the rental conditions in advance.
 

Is it sufficient to present a copy of my driving licence or passport?

Unfortunately, a copy of your documents will not be accepted at the rental desk. You will need to present the documents in their original form during the pick-up process.
If your licence was lost or stolen and you have already booked a car rental with us, we recommend that you either request a name change on the reservation to someone traveling with you, or cancel the reservation if no other option. 
If you decide to change the name of the main driver, the new main driver will need to present all the mandatory documents in their own name at the rental desk.

Why do I need to enter my flight details?

If you are collecting your car at the airport, we recommend you to enter your arrival flight number during the booking process, along with the driver details, in order to help us track your flight and be at the airport, on time.
If haven't booked your tickets during the booking process, you can send us your flight number when you know it, minimum 72hrs before the rental date, by email at info@autocreta.gr

Do I need an international driving licence?

We recommend that you check the licence requirements for your booking, to determine whether you will require an international driving licence or not.
In case your licence is not printed in the Latin alphabet, then sure you will need an international driving licence.
If an international driving licence is required for your booking, you will also be required to bring your national licence with you to present it along with your international driving licence.

How do I find out about the luggage capacity of a vehicle?

During your online booking, each vehicle option will include both the person and luggage capacity for the car category beneath the picture. 
Please keep in mind that luggage capacity, refers to cabin-size pieces of luggage.

How can I add an additional driver?

You can add an additional driver either at the Requirements section during the online booking process, or you can inform our staff upon delivery of the car, to add the second driver at the pick-up spot.

What is the Excess/Deductible?

The Excess/Deductible, is the maximum amount that you are liable to pay if your rental car is damaged. So if Full Insurance C.D.W, is included in your booking, there will be an Excess/Deductible.
In these cases, the Excess/Deductible is the amount you are liable for if there is any damage to the car during your rental, or in case of traffic fines, missing fuel, late return, etc.
When you pick up your car, we place a hold of funds for the Excess/Deductible amount on the main driver's Credit/Debit card as a Security Deposit, for any of the above cases. 
In the event the rental car is damaged during the rental period, the amount needed to cover the expenses, will be taken from the Excess/Deductible held.

How do I find the Excess/Deductible amount?
